Hybrid Working And Neuroscience Project – Our Reasoning
We think this is one way to transform the virtual meeting!
We begin with this Einstein wisdom: “a problem can’t be solved by the same thinking that created it”.
Since 2020, virtual meetings have been generally thought of as adding video technology to the familiar remote conference call (see diagram below).
And our natural adaptation and ingenuity follows this pattern – see what’s working and do more of it and do less of what we think isn’t working.
This thinking drives a famous “S-Curve”, which inevitably flattens without different thinking.
The reverse thinking is a significant loss of visual communication that always exists in F2F meetings. Whether this matters depends on where your team's unique S-curve performance has levelled-off. If it's good enough, good. If it isn't, you'll need a new S-curve.
The latest Neuroscience provides insights into of how humans do continuous interactive visual mind reading in F2F groups. Body language is a metaphor for an amazing story.
After doing everything possible to maximise effective visual signals and where it still matters, there is one option:
Use the neuroscience knowledge to establish the important lost visual mind reading material. Then train teams to translate this into language and to speak it more - animatedly. 😀
It's going have to matter, to go to this trouble, but imagine the leadership capabilities and team bonding that can come out of learning such deep interpersonal understanding of each other.
This is full-circle to the original hybrid project question: "How to do Hybrid Team Building and Development?"
